I heard about allegations that state employees were abusing children at the Texas Youth Commission? How can we hold them accountable so we can protect our children? |
Senator Eliot Shapleigh El Paso, Texas
Last week, we learned of outrageous rapes, abuses, assaults and violence against youth at various Texas Youth Commission facilities. When state employees charged with the lives of youth abuse the very children they are there to serve, we must act quickly and surely to make right a terrible wrong.
We have asked for an investigation by the United States Dept. of Justice, Civil Rights Division and have strongly advocated for placing the agency into conservatorship. We cannot allow those who let this happen for months continue to serve in any capacity around children. |

What do I do about city employees who are going to 7-11 at noon and buying beer in city trucks? |

Should Albert Hawkins be re-nominated to lead the Health and Human Services Commission? |
Senator Eliot Shapleigh El Paso, Texas
Mr. Hawkins is a dedicated public servant. Some of the challenges we face are from lawmakers who give tax cuts to millionaires rather than fund programs like CHIP. But other issues Mr. Hawkins has created. When his agency signed a contract to cut 10,000 state employees, privatized face-to-face interviews with human being into call centers, he made a mistake. And today we're paying for that mistake. In my view, government servants serve the people and he must be accountable to the people for 200,000 children who no longer have CHIP. |

Dear Senator Shapleigh,
Your visit to our school of eager readers was captivating, intriguing, interesting and oh so fascinating. To think that we were in the same room with a senator who fights for our teachers and our students. Wow! Your reading skills are entertaining and so much fun. The game of Simon Says was remarkable! Who would've thought that a senator, who works in Austin, would take time out of his busy day to read to nine year old students? Who would've thought that a senator could read and entertain 100 third graders in such an exciting way? We were luckier than a little green leprechan with a full pot of gold. Our class would like to thank you and invite you to our school again and again and again and again.
Ms. Dominguez and her avid readers: Hunter, Alexa, Chris, J.P., Lalo, Joanna, Christian B, Michael, Emily, Simone, Lynzie, Sean, Clarissa, Kiana, David, Christian w., Angelique
P.S. Please respond to our class @ cgrove_spurs21 @ yahoo.com
By the way, have you ever shopped at The Bicycle Company? The Rosson family is very fond of your work. |
