What are your views on the last elections? |
Senator Eliot Shapleigh El Paso, Texas
These were such exciting elections for El Paso. Elections are about the people and when the people speak, we respect that decision. We have a lot to do in the next session. We have a medical school to fund, highway funding to solve, and education and healthcare. We had more people vote in the last election. That vote was heard all the way to Austin. Our voice counted. |

Why are my property taxes so high? |
Senator Eliot Shapleigh El Paso, Texas
Property taxes in El Paso are high because we are a state without an income tax. An income tax is based on what you actually earn. If you earn more, you pay more. If you earn less, you pay less. Taxes on property is based on the value of your home. For those with a fixed income, it can be very hard. The tax system in Texas is broken. The leadership has not done the work we need for the future. |

What are we doing in El Paso about childhood obesity? It seems to be a growing problem in the area. |
Senator Eliot Shapleigh El Paso, Texas
The best, most effective way to address childhood obesity is to educate. The Catch program is a way to institutionalize exercise in schools and make it a part of a regular routine. It's one of the best kept secrets here and we're working to expand the program. |
