As a handicapped Texan, we lack enough qualified personal attendants to meet our needs in the community. Instead, they are going to nursing homes. Attendants for the handicapped living in the community need better pay so we can keep these qualified individuals. This is a big big problem. |

First, we need to measure what is best to do in Texas. Those with disabilities can go to work and lead productive lives if we can provide quality, key attendant services. If the other choice is more expensive -- nursing homes -- then we should look into programs to provide the services that allow productive Texans to live independent lives. |

What your stance on year-around schools? |
Senator Eliot Shapleigh El Paso, Texas
I believe that choice is with the school distircts. I believe the districts ought to have that choice, if that is what is best for their students. Citizen input is important and the trustees should make a decision based on factors brought by the citizens they serve. |
