My Fellow El Pasoan,
El Paso is on the path of realizing our great potential. We're building El Paso's Four-Year Medical School. Ft. Bliss is growing. Downtown is on its way to new life. As our community moves forward, it is very important to me that I hear from you.
The first Friday of every month, I am inviting you to our District Office in El Paso to share coffee and conversation with me and my staff. Our doors are open. If you can't make it in person, you are invited to send your questions or comments online, via our website.
The next "Coffee with Eliot" will be held: October 3, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
I look forward to visiting with you.
All the best!

Sen. Shapleigh, What do you plan to do to help the suffering school districts? This, my friend, can not go on. We can not stand for our school districts to keep struggling and our children to keep getting robbed of a decent education. We need money, and lots of it. I'm sick and tired of people thinking the teachers have it easy and the districts are waisting money. There have been cut backs after cutbacks and the schools are close to closing. I'm blogging on this subject (texaseducation.wordpress.com) to help educate the general public, to get people in the legislature to help fund our schools.

What a great question. In state government education is job #1. The keys to great schools are motivated teachers, small classes and engaged parents. We have filed many bills to increase teacher pay, decrease class size and improve curriculum. But ulitmately, leadership must come from the top. Sadly, that leadership has failed Texas.

Just a comment I think this is terriffic. What a nice way to reach out to the community and make yourself available. How nice to live in an area that has a Senator that wants to remain part of the community not a director of it. Thanks for the wonderful job, Obviously I havent' wasted my vote.
